They look fun, don’t they? Swirls of neon, glittery fizz, scents that smell like a candy shop - it’s no wonder kids (and grown-ups!) are drawn to them. I get it. A bath bomb feels like a little party in the tub.

But as someone who puts a lot of heart into every product I make, I can’t ignore what’s really inside many of those eye-catching fizzers.
The Hidden Ingredients No One Talks About
Mass-market bath bombs (and yes, even some “handmade” ones) are often packed with synthetic dyes, artificial fragrance oils, glitter, and other fillers that have no place soaking into your skin.|
These ingredients aren’t just sitting on the surface of the water. Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and it is incredibly absorbent. What goes into the tub, or on your skin, can go into you.
Children are especially vulnerable. Their skin is thinner and more permeable, which means those colourful chemicals and mystery “fragrances” can seep in more easily and cause irritation or long-term effects that we may not even fully understand yet. At minimum, they can trigger dryness, rashes, or allergic reactions.

Why We Choose a Different Path
When we craft a bath bomb for Bright Gather, every ingredient has a purpose. Nourishing shea butter to moisturize. Mineral-rich clays, colloidal oats, and gentle botanicals to soothe. Pure essential oils for natural scent - never a vague “fragrance.” No lab-created colours, no glitter, no shortcuts.
It takes more time, more research, and yes, sometimes a bit more cost. But we believe our bodies deserve that level of care. A bath should be a ritual of comfort and nourishment, not a chemical experiment.
What You Can Do
This isn’t about fear, it’s about awareness. Before you drop any bath bomb into your tub (especially for kids), flip it over and read the label. If the ingredient list hides behind generic terms like fragrance or parfum, that’s your cue to pause.
Look for products that use plant-based colourants, essential oils, and skin-loving ingredients you can actually pronounce. Your skin. and your peace of mind, will thank you.

The Bottom Line
Bath time should be fun and safe. Glitter and neon swirls might look magical, but real magic is knowing exactly what’s touching your body and your children’s. Choose gentle. Choose nourishing. Choose ingredients that love you back. Love, Bright Gather
