Yarrow Benefits

Updated: 4 days ago

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is a hardy, herbaceous perennial native to Europe and western Asia that has been naturally spread throughout the temperate areas of the world, including North America. It is tolerant of poor soils and drought while thriving under full sun, which makes it well suited for our northern Alberta climate.

We offer several products which contain this amazing herb. Our packaged, pre-cut Yarrow Herbs can be used in yarrow tea, while our Yarrow + White Sage Salve can be used to get the benefits of yarrow directly onto your skin. Last, we carry several yarrow-infused options for beards, including our Peppermint Cedar Beard Oil, Mountain Pine Beard Oil, and Beard Oil Bundle.

Without further delay, here are some of the benefits of yarrow.

BENEFITS OF YARROW

  1. Wound Healing

Yarrow application to a wound can provide a dual action of helping to stop bleeding, as well as breaking up congealed blood and congested tissue. This double action promotes circulation and detoxification, which can make yarrow application suitable for open wounds and closed soft tissue injuries (such as bruises, strains and sprains).

  2. Colds, Flus and Fevers

Yarrow is an effective remedy for fever, especially when used as a hot tea or tincture. As a diaphoretic, it promotes sweating, helping to regulate body temperature. Additionally, yarrow offers antiviral properties that may help combat influenza.

  1. Skin Inflammation

When applied topically to the skin, yarrow may act as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, helping to restore irritated skin. Applying a herbal salve with infused yarrow can help alleviate symptoms of cracked, irritated or dry skin.

  2. Female Health

Yarrow supports uterine health, aids in regulating menstrual cycles, and can help with menstrual pain, and PMS. With its anti-inflammatory and mild sedative effects, yarrow tea is also believed to help balance periods and soothe premenstrual discomfort.

  3. Pain Relief

Yarrow’s antispasmodic (muscle spasm suppressant) properties make it effective for relieving various types of pain, including those associated with chest discomfort, digestive cramping, anxiety, and asthma-related spasms.
